When my Dachshund, Topper died in October, 2003 at age 15 1/2, I wanted to find a
way of memorializing his joy for life. I thought that a memorial stone in our garden would be
a fitting tribute and reminder that he is always with us. But all I could find were engraved
tombstones similar to what we put in cemeteries. I didn't want a reminder of his death...I
wanted a reminder of his life. So I decided to create my own pet memorial rock.

More than anything else, Topper loved water. He would hike along a mountain trail with
me in the Sierra Nevada in Northern California, until we would come upon a cold
mountain stream. Then he would bolt straight for the water, plop himself down in the
shallows, and smile up at the heavens in pure ectasy. You never saw a happier dog. It was
his favorite place to be, and that's what I tried to capture on his pet memorial rock.

Every pet has activities or places that are special to him and his owner. Maybe it was the
beach, the mountains, or just in front of the fireplace. It's that special place or time that I
would like to create for you, as a tribute to your best friend, on a pet memorial rock.

Email me and tell me about your pet. Perhaps he loved to jog with you in the park. Maybe
he was a Frisbee pro. Or was it just his gentleness that you remember most. Tell me
about it, and I will try to capture it on a hand painted  river rock made smooth over time by
the flowing waters of the American River. Or you can choose one of the scenes on the
Gallery Page. I will personalize your  memorial stone with your pet's name and any words
or dates you wish to include. I will even send you a "proof" sketch for your approval
before beginning your pet memorial rock. The paints are weatherproof, and the stone is
finished with a sealer to withstand the elements. It will remain as a permanent memorial of
love for your pet.

When I look at Topper's Stone in our garden, I am reminded of all the happy times we
spent together. While the grief of losing him never subsides, his pet memorial rock
reinforces my belief that the bond that can be formed between man and animal makes it all
worth it.
